Happy New Year!
With flu season in full swing please review and practice the following guidelines to help stop the spread of influenza.
• Try to avoid close contact with sick people.
• Persons confirmed to have influenza should stay home for five days following onset of symptoms or until fever free for 24 hours (without use of fever-reducing medications), whichever is longer, per Kansas requirement . According to CDC, persons with influenza are considered infectious for 5-7 days after becoming sick.
• If sick with other febrile respiratory illnesses, stay home for at least 24 hours after fever is gone without using fever-reducing medicine.
• Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it.
• Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after you cough or sneeze. Alcohol-based hand cleaners are also effective when soap and water is unavailable.
• Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Germs spread this way.
•Clean and disinfect surfaces and objects that may be contaminated with germs like the flu.
Visit the CDC influenza website for more information about the flu. http://www.cdc.gov/flu/
Buhler USD 313 would like to wish you and yours a very Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and a Happy New Year! Enjoy the extra time together and find joy in something special to you.

One of the most wonderful things about our Buhler school community is the support and partnership we have with our families.
Buhler Schools has become aware of a troubling post that has been shared widely this week on the social media platform TikTok. The post refers to a threat to school safety “for every school in the USA, even elementary,” on Friday, December 17. Currently, we are unaware of any threats about USD #313 schools or students.
The post appears to be part of a national TikTok trend and did not originate in our school district. We have heard reports from other districts that the same post is circulating in their schools. While we do not believe the threat to be credible, we are closely monitoring the situation and taking it seriously.
Additionally, the district has been in contact with our local law enforcement agencies regarding the post. We may have an increased police presence in our buildings on Friday as an added precaution.
This situation serves as a good example of why it is important to avoid sharing posts online that refer to school safety threats. Even if they are not credible threats, they can cause a great deal of stress and anxiety for our students, families, and staff. We ask our families to monitor their children’s social media activity and speak with them about proper behavior online.
If you become aware of any potential threat posted to social media or anywhere else, please notify your building administrator, law enforcement, or make a Suspicious Activity Report with the Kansas Bureau of Investigation at http://www.kbi.ks.gov/sar. You may also anonymously report threats of school violence to the Kansas School Safety Hotline. The number is 877-626-8203.
As always, thank you for your partnership as we work to ensure a safe, secure, and exceptional learning environment for our students.
Sincerely,
Cindy Couchman
Superintendent, Buhler Schools

Due to the extreme high wind conditions, we will not be running the late activity route this evening.
Due to the extreme wind conditions, our buses will be reducing speed this afternoon. If your student is a bus rider in the afternoon, they may arrive home a little later than normal.
Today we are able to offer a little fun for classes across the district. Teachers are calling in to try to win treats for the whole class!
