Buhler, KS - The Buhler High School girls cross country program continues to grow as new students join the team during the fall 2024 season.
The Buhler girls XC team lost a few seniors last year. Now this group of girls are setting out to create their own path to help the cross country team win state this year.
Last year, the girls XC team had 18 team members. This year, the team has shrunk by one member, giving them some depth for the season.
This year, the team opened up their season at the Barton Classic in Great Bend.
To start the season, Corbin Starkweather finished 13th and Audrey Foster finished 29.
“The season is going really well and the girls team has really come together. We can already see clear improvements from last year, time and place-wise,” said Starkweather.
When asked how the team has prepared for the year, Starkweather said, “Running races and workouts harder and faster has been important because when you run faster it pulls the rest of the group along with you. Another way of stepping up has been with team bonding things that Ava, Allie and I have come up with like getting snow cones and other fun activities.”
The last cross-country meet was the Wamego Invitational which was held Saturday, September 14. . The girls placed 6th in the 5000m run with their average time of 22:09. This time was close behind Eudora High School with an average of 21:51.
Due to heat, the upcoming Buhler High School meet which is held at Prairie Hills Middle School Evergy course has been moved to 9:00 a.m. Temperatures are predicted to be in the high 90s.
