Buhler is hosting "Raising Cooperative Kids" on 6 Monday evenings in November and December. Our own Joe Kaufman, Buhler Grade School Counselor, is a positive discipline certified trainer and will be hosting these sessions. Today is School Transportation Appreciation Day and this whole week is School Bus Safety Week! We may be biased but we have the BEST transportation staff around. They get us to where we need to go safely and are the first and last faces our students see each day. Some even bring treats each week for their riders! Join us in thanking these very important people today!

While a tad late in acknowledging this, we want to share that we had over 130 staff members participate in Step-tember! Teams of staff competed in a daily step challenge over the course of September. As a staff, we logged nearly 29 million steps, which is the distance from Buhler to New Delhi and back! Our top stepper was Kara Whitaker, Instrumental Music Teacher for UV, PHMS, and BHS! Kara walked 554,519 steps over the course of September! For her efforts, she earned a new pair of running shoes. Fitting prize, huh? Our top stepping team was the Band Boys which included Kara, Joel Montes, Nathan Biggs and Alex Meek! Congrats to all of them!! We are proud of all our staff for engaging in this fun wellness activity. We are committed to taking care of ourselves so that we can be the best for our students! We will have more challenges throughout the year in an effort to Be Well to #Bexceptional!

Today we had the honor of officially dedicating “Jory Konrade Field” at Prairie Hills Middle School. Mr. Konrade was an amazing educator, coach, and person. He left a special mark on the entire Buhler Schools community. The quote from the sign is something that Mr. Konrade told his team and students often and is so important to remember no matter what challenges come our way. Jory’s immediate family and extended family and friends were able to attend the dedication as pictured below.

Bachelor's Degree or higher and Social Work experience in K-12 settings preferred. This position will work 3 hours per day in multiple buildings as a liaison between USD 313 and Mental Health Providers. Schools, staff and students leveraging "better together" in this collaborative project between Union Valley and Prairie Hills Middle School! Kinders are crafting designs of "monsters" for their Middle School Buddies who will then turn their designs into stuffed creatures! Each month all USD 313 students and staff focus on a core essential skill. October's skill is GRIT. We practice grit in many ways through the hard work of learning and growing together, both in the classroom and through extracurricular activities. Plum Creek is in need of a Shining Stars Assistant. Shining Stars is our child care center inside of Plum Creek available to preschool students. These kids are SO fun to watch learn and grow. Yesterday we had the privilege of notifying two teachers that they have been nominated for the Kansas Horizon Award. Each year the Kansas State Department of Education recognizes exceptional first years of teaching through this award. To be eligible for the award, teachers must have successfully completed their first year of teaching the year prior and have performed in such a way as to distinguish themselves as outstanding. Nominees for Buhler this year are Mrs. Alexis Comley, 6th-8th grade vocal music and choir teacher at Prairie Hills Middle School, and Ms. Ashley Sides, 6th grade science and STEAM teacher at Prairie Hills Middle School. Both are extremely deserving of this nomination and now will complete the application and essays required to be considered one of the top 32 2nd year teachers in the state. 8 winners from 4 Kansas regions will be announced later this school year. With COVID numbers rising in our community, it is a good time to share USD #313 COVID Protocols. Please see the attached pdf for information. As part of the Kansas Department of Health and Environment, USD #313 is pleased to offer free over the counter COVID tests. These tests are to be completed at home. You may pick up tests at any of our school buildings or central office. Please call ahead and verify they have one on hand and only come in our buildings if you are healthy!
