Happy New Year! With flu season in full swing please review and practice the following guidelines to help stop the spread of influenza. • Try to avoid close contact with sick people. • Persons confirmed to have influenza should stay home for five days following onset of symptoms or until fever free for 24 hours (without use of fever-reducing medications), whichever is longer, per Kansas requirement . According to CDC, persons with influenza are considered infectious for 5-7 days after becoming sick. • If sick with other febrile respiratory illnesses, stay home for at least 24 hours after fever is gone without using fever-reducing medicine. • Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it. • Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after you cough or sneeze. Alcohol-based hand cleaners are also effective when soap and water is unavailable. • Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Germs spread this way. •Clean and disinfect surfaces and objects that may be contaminated with germs like the flu. Visit the CDC influenza website for more information about the flu. http://www.cdc.gov/flu/

One of the most wonderful things about our Buhler school community is the support and partnership we have with our families. Buhler Schools has become aware of a troubling post that has been shared widely this week on the social media platform TikTok. The post refers to a threat to school safety “for every school in the USA, even elementary,” on Friday, December 17. Currently, we are unaware of any threats about USD #313 schools or students. The post appears to be part of a national TikTok trend and did not originate in our school district. We have heard reports from other districts that the same post is circulating in their schools. While we do not believe the threat to be credible, we are closely monitoring the situation and taking it seriously. Additionally, the district has been in contact with our local law enforcement agencies regarding the post. We may have an increased police presence in our buildings on Friday as an added precaution. This situation serves as a good example of why it is important to avoid sharing posts online that refer to school safety threats. Even if they are not credible threats, they can cause a great deal of stress and anxiety for our students, families, and staff. We ask our families to monitor their children’s social media activity and speak with them about proper behavior online. If you become aware of any potential threat posted to social media or anywhere else, please notify your building administrator, law enforcement, or make a Suspicious Activity Report with the Kansas Bureau of Investigation at http://www.kbi.ks.gov/sar. You may also anonymously report threats of school violence to the Kansas School Safety Hotline. The number is 877-626-8203. As always, thank you for your partnership as we work to ensure a safe, secure, and exceptional learning environment for our students. Sincerely, Cindy Couchman Superintendent, Buhler Schools

Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief III (ESSER III) funds are being provided under the American Rescue Plan (ARP) Act of 2021, Public Law 117-2, enacted on March 11, 2021. The purpose of ESSER III is to address the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on students by mitigating learning losses, supporting social-emotional needs, and ensuring safe in-person learning for students. As part of our application for ESSER III funds to the Kansas Department of Education we must include input from a variety of stakeholders on how best to use these funds. Your input will impact how ESSER III funds are spent across the school district. Allowable expenses are listed here: https://www.ksde.org/Portals/0/ECSETS/Announcements/ESSER-15AuthorizedUsesforESSERIIFunds.pdf (Note that the document says ESSER II. Allowable expenses are the same in ESSER III) Please take a few minutes to provide your feedback. Thank you in advance for your input and participation.
